Wedding Photography with a Difference ? Getting Involved With the Digital Age

Thursday, January 26th, 2012

Wedding photography doesn’t have to be boring, and it doesn’t have to be expensive. Come to think of it, why book a wedding photographer at all when the bride, groom and all their friends can do it themselves? This is the DIY age, after all, where bands get famous because they broadcast themselves on the Internet and Graffiti artists become superstars. Join the party; retake control of that special day; and end up with a set of wedding photos that are way more than just an album. This is wedding photography for the 21st century – real, raw and full of energy.

Sounds a little rough and ready for what is traditionally a very staid and by the book day? Let’s take a moment to think about the purpose of a wedding. We’re always being told that weddings are a celebration of the love of two people for each other, held in the eyes and hearts of their family and friends, to celebrate and validate that love. So why in the name of all that’s insane do we insist on formalising everything about them, to the point where even the wedding photography is done by someone who has no interest whatsoever in the lives and friendships of the couple in question? Money, that’s why. A wedding is about love and friendship: not about spending thousands on the services of a photographer who simply doesn’t have enough intimate knowledge of either member in the transaction to take a shot that actually shows them for who they are.

So – join the revolution if you dare. Nuts to staid and traditional, which in almost every part are just words meaning “getting fleeced by an overpriced shutter bug because everyone else does”. Let’s tear down the gates of that particular institution and start again – with the cameras, and the knowledge, and the friendship and love, of all the people who actually know us. Let’s have some wedding photography done by the guests, by the family and friends. Let’s see some candid snaps, before and after. Some shots taken on phones, some on digital cameras. Let’s have them all uploaded to a site where they can be shared, enjoyed, added to and commented on. Let’s use the Internet in its best possible sense – to share knowledge and joy. Let’s commemorate a wedding for what everyone says it ought to be, rather than what some guy with a massive camera tells us.

If marriage is about celebrating a love in the sight of friends and family, then why not let those friends and family commemorate that love in the eyes and lenses of their cameras? That’s the kind of wedding photography that the 21st century was born for – and with the Internet, and a little snappy technology, it’s the kind of wedding celebration this country has been waiting for.

Why Hire Professional Wedding Photographer And Videographer

Sunday, January 22nd, 2012

The photographs and video of your wedding will become permanent reminders of what should be one of the best moments of your life. These photographs and videos have to capture not only the ceremony , but everything, including the guests, the mood and the ambience. This is where a professional wedding photographer and videographer are worth their weight in gold.

Reasons for Hiring A Professional Wedding Videographer and Photographer

1.    A professional wedding videographer and/or photography know how to capture every single moment of your wedding in all its glory. They can give the video and photographs a polished look, rather than a simple point and shoot effect.

2.    Since they have a lot of experience in this type of work, your chosen videographer/photographer can suggest some unique ways to film/edit or photograph your wedding. For instance, the wedding videographer can include a voiceover to narrate the event or they can include different interviews with the guests.

3.    Similarly, the wedding photographer can take photographs that work well with the narrative and editing techniques chosen by the videographer.

4.    He/she can also help to suggest the right type of music to set a mood for the wedding video.

5.    These professionals know how to pull everything together to give you the best final result.

How to Choose the Right Wedding Photographer and Videographer

1.    Ask for references from your friends and relatives. Personal recommendations are always better than simply looking in a local directory and choosing someone with the biggest and best advertisement. If someone close to you is confident enough to make a recommendation then you can be sure that the professional is at least capable of doing a good job for you.

2.    Search the Internet – again a better option than searching through a directory. Most wedding videographers and wedding photographers will have samples of their work online if they own a website. Just make sure that the samples they are showing are work that they have done themselves and not work they have ‘borrowed’ from associates, other websites or using royalty free photographs and video.

3.    Once you have a good list of wedding videographers/photographers you will need to narrow them down prior to meeting them personally. Again check their samples online, or ask for references that you can speak to. Once you have the references make sure that you call them. Beware though that any references that you are given will only be those that the photographer and videographer are confident will give pass on good comments. But it is still worth investing the time to contact them to see if there are any misgivings at all.

4.    When you have narrowed down your potential providers, meet them in person. Ask them to bring their actual video/photographic profiles with them. Every professional photographer should be able to show you real work either in an album or on a DVD, rather than relying on you to view them on the Internet. The real thing will give you a higher definition in terms of color and depth than you would see over the Internet, and will give you a better idea of how your own work will look upon completion.

5.    Ask for the all inclusive price. Don’t be swayed by a low starting price to only find out that this includes only a very basic service and things that you feel are very important are added later at much higher fees than others who charge higher starting price can include at a lower cost. Of course you are restricted by your budget, but remember this is hopefully the one time you will be doing this, so don’t scrimp and save a few dollars on this part of your wedding if there is a good chance you might regret sacrificing some of the additional services that you really want. The wedding day itself is one day, but your wedding videos and photographs are forever.

6.    If you have already hired a wedding photographer or photographer make sure they are happy to team up with another professional (videographer if you have a photographer already, or vice versa) for the day to ensure both aspects complement each other and you are left with the best possible result for both services.

7.    Once you are sure you have the right videographer and/or photographer, book them immediately. Good professionals get booked up quickly so if they are available for your big day don’t take the chance. Be prepared to pay a deposit of anything between 10% and 25%, but once you have paid it that is one less piece of preparation you have to worry about.

8.    Two weeks or so before the big day confirm with your photographer and videographer that everything is in place to go, and ask any last minute questions at that time to ensure any fixes that need to be put in place can be done with ample time.

Proper planning and a focused effort in choosing your wedding photographer and videographer will allow one of the best moments of your life to be captured perfectly. This is hopefully a one shot deal, so don’t take any chances.

Warning : Only 9 % Of Wedding Photographers Are Professionals

Friday, January 20th, 2012

Wedding photography is a crucially important job which needs precision, accuracy and yet a sensitive human touch with a perfect understanding of emotions and feelings. It is not easy capturing the most memorable moments of the life of two people on lens and that is why you need to have the best in this art on your side.

Most couples who read this article will by now be very familiar with the vast number of “Wedding Photographers” out there on the web.

Let me give you some horrifying statistics: There are over 27,000 listed wedding photographers on the web for the UK alone. There are two main “Professional Bodies” in the UK which regulate the quality and professionalism of the wedding photographers, The MPA (Master Photographers Association) and the BIPP (British Institute of Professional Photographers). One key requirement of membership of either body is that you are a “Full time professional photographer”.

Now here’s where the rubber hits the road; less than 2,000 of those so called wedding photographers are listed either professional body, that means less that 9% of all so called wedding photographers are “Full time professional”. 91% are part-time, unqualified photographers and worse still totally unaccountable.

That’s why when you choose a wedding photographer you need to choose [removed][removed] from top professionals who have the experience, talent, and reputation to deliver outstanding wedding photography to their clients. Among them, are a small number of award winning wedding photographers who are very talented, these photographers also work in the area of lifestyle portraits too. These photographers use wedding albums and prints of the highest order to showcase their work.

Wedding photography generally involves a lot of traveling, however professional photographers have no qualms about it, in fact we love going to and discovering new places. Often our approach to wedding photography is ever so simple: we actually select the weddings we want to do, then very carefully we give them a candid, sensitive yet elegant style. We do not cut corners on technique or material for your wedding commissions – we will either do it right or not at all. Living and working in cosmopolitan cities like Birmingham, Cardiff, Oxford and Bristol we welcome the exciting challenges of multicultural weddings. In fact the more unusual the venue and creative the event, the better it is for us.

There is a common strand that binds photographers together which is a mixture of traditional, fine-art and photo-direction which produce very chic and creative wedding photographs. True professional wedding photographers offer great deals to all their customers and clients. All photography deals include an engagement session, signature mount and album.

How to Hire a Wedding Photographer – 5 Important Tips

Monday, January 16th, 2012

As you plan for your wedding day, you will endure a wide range of experiences, some of which you will be familiar with prior to this point.  Young brides may have hired a caterer for a past function, or a florist for non-wedding arrangements, and so on.  However, many brides have never sought to employ a photographer, particularly to document and capture what is to be one of the most important days of her life.  Oh, and it is important to the groom too.

So there can be a lot of pressure in this undertaking.  (Minor understatement.)

Despite these concerns, hiring a wedding photographer can be a fun process (or, at the very least, less than stressful).  Most importantly you need to focus on five distinct behaviors and characteristics of a photographer and her business.

1. Rapport

You will likely meet with more than one photographer, and in doing so you will learn a lot about the personality and interpersonal skills of the photographer.  You may meet with one who acts like the stereotypical used car salesman, pushing you to sign on the dotted line while smiling and gazing inappropriately at your mother.  You may speak with a photographer, only to find that she is virtually unable to engage in basic conversation, signifying her lack of social graces.

These are, of course, the extreme cases.  You will, though, meet different personalities, and – like it or not – some personalities match you better than others.  It is the way of human social interaction.  The general rapport of the photographer will be absolutely crucial when it matters most – on the day you are married.  Find a photographer who can hold a conversation, be pleasant, and still get the shots needed.

2. Style

You are hiring a photographer for one primary purpose – i.e., to take photographs at your wedding that you will like after your wedding day.  You have to like the style of the photographer selected, be that traditional and posed, dramatic with a fashion flair, photojournalistic and contemporary, and so on.  You are hiring an artist, and the art must be something that speaks to your aesthetic sense.  This is, to my mind, the easiest element to determine.  Look at the sample photos, and you may very well have the ‘A Ha’ moment.

3. Product

You aren’t looking for a photographer so you can later claim that you did indeed purchase the ‘Rose’ package, or whatever cute moniker they develop for their most expensive ‘plan.’  You are looking for photographs, usually actual photographs you can touch and show to your grandmother who doesn’t have a computer.

What I am getting at here is, you likely have an idea of what it is you want to HAVE – in your hands – after the wedding.  That might be a DVD with high resolution photographs, it might be two hundred 4X6 prints, or an album.  Whatever it is that you really want, you need to be sure that the photographer can produce, not only the item itself, but a QUALITY item.  Albums vary incredibly in style and quality.  Prints produced at your local big box outlet store are NOT the same as prints produced at professional photo printers.  Be sure that you are comfortable with the photographer’s products.

4. Professionalism

Let’s say you set up an appointment with a photographer to talk about her services and she is twelve minutes late, uttering things like, “wow, traffic was bad,” or, “I had a hard time finding the place.”  These statements might hold weight in ordinary events, but this is planning for your WEDDING DAY.  Imagine that same photographer making the same statements after missing the beginning of your wedding.  That is unacceptable.

Suppose that the photographer is on time to your meeting, but is wearing an Iron Maiden t-shirt proclaiming that the Dublin concert in 1984 really was a lot of fun.  You can even like Iron Maiden and still find this dress less than professional.

You should expect, and indeed deserve, a professional photographer – one who exhibits the habits and behaviors of any business owner.  The photographer will need to know their practice inside and out, and if you ask a question about their business and they seem flustered, then chances are incredible that YOU will be flustered while they are attempting to take pictures of you.  Professional conduct applies in any business, and certainly no less so in photography.

5. True Gestalt

Psychologists might cringe at my use of the term ‘gestalt’ here, but what I am getting at is this:

You are hiring the complete photographer.  They will be at your wedding day and play a               prominent role.  You have to like the whole package.

So 1-4 above – rapport, style, product, and professionalism – must come together in a confluence of all the other things about the photographer and yield a complete package that you can support.  This is important because, it is certainly possible that a particular photographer will satisfy your requirements on elements 1-4, but fail in the gestalt overview.  If it doesn’t all come together, walk away and keep looking.

When you are able to find a photographer with a rapport that matches your general demeanor, a style that calls to your artistic side, the products that will satisfy you and your loved ones, the professional characteristics necessary for conducting a good business, and the ‘gestalt’ nature demonstrating the whole package – you are done looking!  Hire that photographer!

(As an aside, let me go out on a limb here and make radical claim – the price doesn’t really matter.  This will rile some feathers, but give it some thought.  If you are comfortable with the above 5 things to look for in a wedding photographer, what is the difference of 0 (or more)?  In the overall scheme of things, this is a relatively small price to pay for a really great service.  Unless, of course, you are planning to get married many more times.  Then you should get your cousin’s friend to photograph the wedding who offered to do it for free since he just got his DSLR and would love to learn how to use it.)

This will all take some time, though some brides luck out and meet with the photographer they will hire on their first attempt.  Don’t be discouraged if you have to meet with several, though, as the time spent now will be more than worth it on your wedding day.

Understanding Reportage Wedding Photography

Monday, January 16th, 2012

Your wedding will be one of the most vital moments within your life. You have possibly played it within your mind a thousand times: the lingering smell of delicious food, the air heavy with flower perfume, the resplendent, shimmering wedding dress, and excellent photography to record everything.

Weddings in modern times demand photography which goes above the formal, stiff poses, and instead captures eternal, carefree love. Forever gone are the times when wedding photographs meant waiting for a camera to click and uncomfortably smiling. These days, wedding photographs are about recording the intimate moments and unique personality of the wedding.

Reportage wedding photography, additionally referred to as documentary wedding photography, or wedding photojournalism is for individuals who wish for the feeling and emotion of their wedding day to be captured on camera. In a non-obtrusive way, the photographer will photograph the wedding day as it unfolds, with only minimal intervention. The photographer must always be within the correct place at the correct time, so he does not miss any important events.

You need to be okay with the photographer following you around a majority of the wedding day, otherwise, there might be a problem! If you can cope with that and have the ability to ignore the photographer (which is what the photographer wishes for), you will end up with natural photographs that are wonderful.

The largest challenge within reportage wedding photography includes recording the little events – all the things which go unnoticed, yet really show the wedding day magic. The key to getting the most spontaneous and natural shots involve having the ability to be fairly quiet and unnoticeable.

Reportage shots work well in black and white – this nostalgic, timeless appearance will compliment captured moments and turn them into something very special. Digital wedding photography permits photographers to convert colour photos to black and white.

Keep in mind that the photos of the wedding day will last a lifetime. You will want to show your children and grandchildren the story, not a sequence of formally posed pictures without any intimacy or warmth. It may cost you slightly more than to hire a conventional wedding photographer, yet as it comes to preserving your memories of the best day of your life, it will be money that is well spent.

Why does the price of wedding photography differ so much?

Thursday, January 12th, 2012

There are many different types of weddings, just like there are many different types of wedding photographer! You may see some photographers websites of people offering to photograph your wedding for £250 and other photographers charging 10 or 20 times that price. What causes the huge discrepancy?

As with many things, you get what you pay for up to a point. Full time professional wedding photographers rely on their wedding photography commissions to survive and lead the lifestyle they think they deserve. Full time professional wedding photographers have fairly large costs which they have to cover before making any salary for themselves. A professional camera (not including the lens) costs at least £2000 and last for 1 – 2 years of full time use (50 weddings a year). Professional wedding photographers will ahve at least 3 of these in their camera bags – obviously they need spare kit. High quality batteries are around £100 each and you wouldn’t want your photographer to skimp on camera batteries would you? Lenses, which fortunately last considerably more than the cameras themselves cost between £1000 and £3000 each and of course the photographer needs to have spares. A good quality flashgun costs £500 – again, spares are needed. It’s not uncommon for a full time professional wedding photographer to have a camera bag on their shoulder during your wedding containing £8,000 worth of equipment (all which needs insuring!) along with another £5,000 worth of spare kit in the book of their car.

Back at the office, a computer capable of quickly editing and storing the 3000+ wedding photographs from your day costs between £2,000 and £5,000 – not to mention the £2,000 laptop they use to create your slideshow to show on the day. As you know, computers go out of date pretty quickly and these need replacing ever 2 – 3 years at least. Professional grade software isn’t cheap either. Then there’s the cost of traveling to the client meetings, scoping out the venues, dry cleaning their suit every week etc etc etc. It all mounts up to quite a cost for one person to bear. It’s not uncommon for photographers to have £20,000 worth of costs every year. That’s before you take into account any training courses they should attend to keep their skills up to date.

So how do some photographers photograph weddings for £250? The answer is simple – they cut corners to cut costs. A photographer charging £250 – £500 will not be doing it full time, they’ll have a “day” job that pays the bills and will be doing weddings on the weekend to earn a bit of extra pocket money. They probably won’t have £5,000 camera and lens combinations capable of capturing stunning, high quality images in low light. They’ll be using cameras that look professional, but that cost maybe £350 – £500 and their lenses will be the cheap kit lenses that come with the camera. Hopefully they’ll have spare kit, but it will probably be the bear minimum. They may not have any sort of public liability or professional indemnity insurance. As they’re not photographing weddings full time, they won’t have the time or inclination to post process your photographs to the same extent as a full time pro. If they have another source of income, there will be less motivation to create stunning works of art that bring in more business through referrals than someone who only has wedding photography to put food on their family’s table.

Of course there is plenty of room in the wedding photography market for everyone. Just because someone doesn’t photograph weddings full time, or have professional grade equipment doesn’t mean you definitely won’t get great pictures. Similarly, spending £2,000 on your wedding photographs doesn’t necessarily guarantee you’ll absolutely love your images. Some people just aren’t that worried about having amazing pictures and would rather spend their money on the dress, cake or honeymoon. Having a £250 photographer who’s sole intention is to take photographs on your big day is far better than not having any photographer at all and in the end you’ll spend your budget on what you think is important to you.

Wedding photographer Midlands from Kaminski-weddings.com

Tuesday, January 10th, 2012

The most beautiful wedding photography is the simplest, the kind of photography that manages to freeze frame simple moments of joy without appearing staged. The wedding photographer plays a very important role, their role is to immortalise the special day in a series of visual snapshots. Therefore deciding who is going to take the wedding photographs is a pretty big decision. It is never a good idea to go down the route of relying on a friend to take pictures with a substandard digital camera. Unless this friend is actually a professional photographer as well as a friend, it is best to hire a professional who has had experience taking wedding photographs.

When choosing a wedding photographer it is always a good idea to look through their work, especially their wedding photography work. As most wedding photographers do other types of photography work in addition to wedding photography. Focus on the wedding pictures to make sure they meet your expectations. It is advisable to ask the photographer to take a few snaps to see if you feel comfortable with their photography skills. There are so many photographers out there who claim they are professional however, sadly some who claim to be professional are simply not, therefore check through all their work as well as find out if they are a member of a professional photography board.  You can normally tell if a photographer is professional by looking at their work.

The wedding photographer can be compared to a story teller, because they pretty much tell the story of the wedding with the pictures they take. They should be able to make someone who did not attend the wedding feel the emotion through the pictures. They do say that a picture can tell a thousand words and this is very true. You can tell a whole story without words, and this is what the wedding photos should be able to do. A professional photographer should be capable of scanning a room and capturing the tiniest of emotions. The smallest things can be the most precious and the most effective pieces of visual artistry. This is why it is very important to make sure the photographer is experienced in his field, and that he is used to taking wedding photographs. There really is nothing worse than hiring a photographer and the pictures turn out the complete opposite of what you expected. The outcome should be nothing short of perfect if the photographer is a competent professional.

If the photographer is a professional and knows his craft inside out then, you should walk away with a set of spectacular wedding photos that are the perfect reminder of your perfect day. Whether you are looking for a wedding photographer in the Midlands or Greater London, you should always be searching for the same thing, professionalism. This is something that should never be compromised when choosing a wedding photographer.

An Amateur Photographer Can Ruin Your Wedding ::by Dubai Photographer

Monday, January 9th, 2012

Photography is a subtle art, not to be practiced by the inattentive. This art requires an eye for detail, sensitivity towards fellow human beings and all that surrounds us. Without these traits one can’t be a good photographer. If you’re in a refined place like Dubai you want your wedding photographs to come out looking good. Almost every Photographer provides this service.

But it’s a good idea to ask your dubai Wedding Photographer beforehand. For all of us, wedding is one of the most important occasions of our life, and we want to preserve the moments forever. A professional photographer will make sure that these memories are of smiling friends, bridesmaids catching bouquets, a handsome groom walking up the aisle, not of Uncle Richard digging his nose for boogers. That’s the difference between a professional Dubai Wedding Photographer and an amateur.

Who can risk not hiring a Dubai pro Photographer and ruin his or her wedding memories? Professional photographers have professional equipment. They will have a good quality camera, flash-gun for low-light areas, battery replacements, a tripod, good quality lenses, filters, and other accessories. Dubai Photographer who knows his trade will shoot you only from your best angle. If you want to look beautiful in your photographs that probably every relative and friend will ask to see, you need to hire a professional. For your wedding, get only the best Dubai Wedding Photographer.

By know I am sure that you’ve decided to only recruit a professional. Good decision. Now here’s a handy tip to figure out who to recruit. Ask your photographer for samples of his work. Dubai Photographer often ask for their patron’s permission to show some of their photographs as samples, and a pro wedding photographer will show you shots that he has taken earlier. Seeing the photographs will tell you exactly what the Doylestown PA Wedding Photographer is capable of, and you’ll be able to hire without trepidation. The Whole New World Of Digital Wedding Photography

Friday, January 6th, 2012

When it comes to your wedding day, choosing the appropriate vendors can help you showcase your personality and create the type of day that you have been dreaming of for a lifetime. From the food and the flowers to the dress and the music, every detail is attended to with great love and passion. The wedding photography, above all else, is the detail that will have the most lasting impact on your day, as your photos will be that which you share with generations of family to come in order to give them a glimpse into your special day. Further, your wedding photos will be your keepsake for a lifetime, bringing you back to that special moment in time. Digital wedding photography has taken this long held tradition and brought it into the modern world where it can make its truly spectacular mark.

Digital wedding photography utilizes digital technology to capture your wedding day. The obvious advantage – during the actual event – is that the photographer has the ability to see the results on the spot and retake the picture if necessary. This is a once in a lifetime event. And in the past, there was no opportunity for retake had a picture turned out poorly. This would have been especially devastating if photos were taken of elderly relatives or people you don’t often see; gone was a moment in time that you were not able to successfully capture. But today’s digital wedding photography gives an immediate second chance to capture that never-to-be-repeated moment. The benefit of this is indescribable.

The other advantages of digital wedding photography occur after the actual wedding. No longer must couples wait for lengthy developing in order to view their wedding pictures and decide what they would like included in an album. Digital wedding photography can be downloaded onto a computer and instantly seen – saving enormous time and expense for all parties involved. Of course, the inclusion of the computer provides the opportunity for color correction and further enhancing at the click of a button.

But perhaps the most significant benefit to digital wedding photography is the opportunity to share your wedding day with family and friends far and wide regardless of whether or not they were able to attend your big day. Digital wedding pictures downloaded on the computer can be instantly accessed and seen all over the world. Further, family and friends can choose to order prints if they so choose – avoiding the expense of copying and sending pictures to multitudes of people.

Digital wedding photography is a contemporary component in the traditional world of weddings – bringing this time honored tradition into the modern world.
